ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams split up this weekend for two different meets, as several distance runners had a successful evening at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton on Friday and the rest of the squad made the trip to Cornell on Saturday for the historic Transatlantic Series with Cambridge and Oxford.
Â
Friday night highlighted the weekend with a pair of program records in the 3,000m steeplechase, while another program record was hit up in Ithaca in the women's pole vault.
Â
Michael Keehan and
Olivia Morganti put on the after burners on Friday night at the Larry Ellis Invitational, each taking home victories in the steeplechase while setting a new bar in the program record book. Keehan came through with a time of 8:36.79, while Morganti cruised to a time of 10:09.13.
Â
Keehan's time knocks off the 2000 time set by Sean MacMillan (8:40.29), and Morganti's time tops Amy Darlington's 2016 record of 10:20.41.
Â
The other program record was set up at the Transatlantic Series by
Nataliia Ilieva in the pole vault. After setting the new mark last week of 4.08m, she set the bar even higher on Saturday with a winning height of 4.22m (13-10).
Â
Throughout the weekend, the Quakers had 15 total program top-10 marks that included the three new records. Check out all of them below.
Â
Penn is back in action next weekend, splitting up again for a pair of events. Part of the team will head down to the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville while the others will make a shorter trek to the Widener Invitational in Chester. Both are two-day events set to begin on Friday.
