NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania women's track and field program finished the 2017 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships in second, while the men's team tallied a third-place finish of its own and boasted three individual Ivy Heps Champions.

The second-place mark for the women's side is the best since a second-place finish in 2006, while the 125 points for the Quakers are the third-most all-time and most since the Red and Blue won the event in 1986. This year marks the third-straight the men's team finished third at the outdoor conference meet.

The women from Penn continued their momentum from day one in field events right into day two, with the first completed competition on that side of action come from the shot put that saw freshman Maura Kimmel place second with a toss of 14.4m, ranking second in program history. That would only be the beginning for Kimmel however, as the rookie reset her program-best distance in the discus with a toss of 49.70m to sit third, ahead of Isis Trotman in fourth for the Red and Blue. Anna Peyton Malizia grabbed second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.72m, the best of the event.

On the track, senior Ashley Montgomery began her day in the 1,500m, finishing third with a time of 4:30.96, before freshman Breanne Bygrave also took a third-place mark in the 100m hurdles at 13.72. In the 400m, the Quakers earned two scoring performances from Cecil Ene and Elena Brown-Soler who placed second and fifth respectively, while Brown-Soler improved upon her seventh-place mark in Penn history set a day before. Taylor McCorkle and Barbara Biney represented the Red and Blue in the 100m, taking fourth and fifth, with McCorkle clocking a time of 11.58 seconds, while another two Quakers scored in the 800m led by Ella Wurth with a time of 2:09.47.

It was more freshman standout performances in the 400m hurdles for Penn, as Tia Livingston matched her No. 2 all-time mark at Penn with a time of 1:00.02. In the 200m, McCorkle blasted to a wind-aided time of 23.69 to take fourth, followed by Ene in sixth at 23.94. The day rounded out with the 5K and relay events, with Cleo Whiting once again leading the way for Penn in the distance race, placing third with a time of 16:38.75, followed by Montgomery in sixth. The Quakers took fifth and third in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays respectively.

For the men, the day began with a championship as Nick Tuck won his third-consecutive Ivy Heps steeplechase with a time of 9:00.27. Tuck became just the second runner in league history to win the steeplechase three times and was followed in scoring by rookies Colin Daly and William Daly in third and sixth respectively. The Quakers then picked up a point in the 4x100m relay before Chris Hatler claimed fourth in the 1,500m, crossing the finish line in 3:46.66. Sophomore Calvary Rogers, competing for the first time in over month, won the 200m with a wind-aided time of 20.91 seconds, matching his Ivy Heps indoor 200m championship from earlier this year. Rogers is the first Penn runner to win the event at Ivy Heps since 2005. The day rounded out with a fourth-place mark from Kevin Monogue in the 5,000m, before Joe NovakJeff WisemanElias Graca and Clark Mangini churned out a third-place finish in the 4x800m relay.

In field events, senior captain Noah Kennedy-White grabbed the first Ivy Heps championship of his career, taking first in the discus with a throw of 54.69m, making it five-straight years Penn has claimed gold in the event after four-straight wins from Sam Mattis. Fellow senior William Bishop also went out with a bang at Ivy Heps, taking third in the shot put with a PR throw of 17.41m, good for second in program history. Kennedy-White joined him on the podium in fourth.  Lance Yassay scored for the first time at Ivy Heps, taking sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 2.03m.

The meet rounded out with the grueling decathlon, with Penn represented by Luke Knouse and Evan Lee. Day two featured strong performances from Knouse  who placed third in the pole vault, and fifth in the javelin and 1,500m to put the junior into sixth with a total of 6,374 points, giving Penn the ultimate one point edge of Harvard in the team standings for third place. Lee finished right behind in seventh with four top-three marks in the decathlon.

The Quakers will have one final shot to earn qualifying marks for NCAA Regionals next weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Championships hosted by Princeton University beginning on Friday, May 12.
