Newash-Campbell Breaks 93-Year-Old School Record in 400m Dash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field team wrapped up competition at the Tom Jones Invitational on Saturday, hosted by the University of Florida.  

Nayyir Newash-Campbell crushed the 93-year-old men's 400m school record set by Bill Carr in 1932 at 46.28. 

Newash-Campbell clocked a time of 46.14, ranked first in the Ivy League.

Ryan Matulonis sits seventh in the NCAA 400m hurdles recording a season-best time of 49.84.

Alex Sadikov ranks third in the Ivy League at 51.18, seventh on the all-time performance list. 

The women's 4x100m relay team of Caia Gelli, Christiana Nwachuku, Chikaodinaka Akazi, and Fore Abinusawa lead the Ivy League with a time of 44.72. 

Nwachuku recorded a personal-best time in the 200m clocking in at 23.61. Akazi ran a personal-best time in the 100m hurdles at 13.74. 

Jocelyn Niemiec ranks third in the Ivy League 400m crossing the finish line at 53.26. 

In Chester, Pa., Edwin Klanke clocked a sub-four-minute mile finishing first with a personal-best time of 3:59.11. Nick Carpenter clocked in fourth at 4:02.48, followed by George Keen in fifth at 4:02.62. Klanke ranks third all-time on the performance list, Carpenter eighth, and Keen ninth. 

Nicolas Pizarro won the 800m with a time of 1:48.93.  Esfan Daya placed first in the 3000m steeplechase at time of 9:23.36. 

Women's pole vault swept the competition at Wiedner going first, second, and third with Kai Eisenhardt leading the way. Eisenhardt placed first clearing an outdoor personal-best height of 4.10m (13' 5.25"). Meghan Hart claimed second at 4.00m (13' 1.5") and Natalia Ilieva third at 3.85m (12' 7.5").

Samantha Strydesky took first in the high jump competition clearing a personal-best height of 1.73m (5' 8"), ranked third in the Ivy League. 

Chloe Hassman and L'Mio Edwards made their way into the Quakers top 10 record book finishing first and second in the 800m. Hassman recorded a personal-best time of 2:04.91, followed by Edwards at 2:06.43. 

Penn went on to claim first in the women's 100m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, 3000m steeplechase, shot put, and discus events. 

Stella Inman placed first in discus (46.29m) and shot put (12.76m), and second in hammer throwing 49.21m (161' 5"). 

Ijeoma Eziri placed second in the long jump (5.77m) and triple jump (11.67m). 

In Walnut, Calif., Jake Rose scored a personal-best 7176 points in the decathlon, ranked eighth on the all-time performance list. 

Benedikt Sachta placed second in pole vault at a height of 5.15m (16' 10.75").
