Penn Teams with Cornell to Sweep Transatlantic Series

CAMBRIDGE, England - The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams teamed up with Cornell on Saturday to compete in the Transatlantic Series versus the Achilles Club of Oxford and Cambridge. 

Penn / Cornell women won the 23rd match against Oxford / Cambridge scoring 130-65.  The men's team defeated team Achilles 114-83, remaining unbeaten since 1970. 

The Transatlantic meet is part of one of the oldest series of international meets in the world between the major British and American universities. The Transatlantic Series traces its origins to 1894, when Oxford defeated Yale by and a half events to three and a half in London, whereas the following year Yale beat Cambridge 8-3 in New York.

Penn claimed first in the individual women's 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m H, 400m H, 2000m Steeple, Discus, Shot Put, and Triple Jump. The men's team placed first in the 200m, high jump, and pole vault.  

Freshmen Sofia Swindell and Jessica Oji led the women's team claiming first in two events each. Swindell placed first in the 100m hurdles (14.04) and 400m hurdles (1:03.09).  Oji continued to dominate in the field finishing first in shot put (16.91m) and discus (45.24m). 

Milan Ramey added a first place finish in the 100m with a time of 11.92, while Jailyn Milord finished first in the 200m (24.79), and Rianna Floyd crossing first in the 400m (55.06). Sarah Fischer paced the 2000m steeplechase finishing first at 7:01.15. 

In the field, Adannia Agbo placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 12.55m. 

On the men's side, Kampton Kam cleared the bar set at 2.10m capturing a first place finish in high jump. Thomas Bucks jumped clean through 4.95m, placing first in pole vault. 

Simeon Adams crossed the finish line first in the 200m with a time of 21.87.

Working together, Penn-Cornell swept the men's and women's relays placing first in the men's 4x100m (42.01), 4x400m (3:16.62), women's 4x100m (47.12) and 4x400m (3:53.52).
