PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's head coach for women's basketball,
Mike McLaughlin, has announced an update to the program's 2025-26 schedule.
Penn is excited to announce a trip to the University of Texas for a game against the Longhorns on Sunday, Nov. 30 which is the end of the Thanksgiving weekend. A traditional national power, Texas went 35-4 last year—three of the losses coming to defending NCAA champion and SEC rival South Carolina—and advanced all the way to the Women's Final Four before losing to the Gamecocks.
"Playing a team like Texas presents a fantastic opportunity for our team," said McLaughlin, the program's all-time winningest coach. "They are a great program led by a great coach in Vic Schaefer. It's also an opportunity to bring a few of our players back to their home state during the Thanksgiving holiday, as
Ese Ogbevire is from Katy and
Ashna Tambe is from Plano. We are always looking to give our players experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives, and so we are excited to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Austin and soaking in the atmosphere that comes with playing a team of Texas' caliber."
True fans of The Palestra may recall that Texas made a visit to the hallowed "Cathedral of College Basketball" back in 1982, facing Rutgers in what would be the last Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) championship game. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Longhorns, 83-77. The following year, the NCAA took over as the official national championship tournament host for women's basketball.
