PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly awards in women's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania senior forward
Simone Sawyer was named Player of the Week. This is her first weekly award of the season.
Sawyer earned the honor by stuffing the stat sheet in her final collegiate game, a 69-56 win over Brown Saturday at The Palestra. The senior finished the day with 17 points, tying for game-high scoring honors, and was one shy of the team high with seven rebounds. She also led all players with four steals and finished one shy of the team lead in both assists (3) and blocked shots (3). Of Sawyer's seven rebounds, five came on the offensive glass. Offensively, she shot 5-8 (.625) from the field and went 6-7 (.857) from the foul line, finishing the regular season leading the Ivy League and 20th nationally in overall FT percentage (74-84, .881). Sawyer also had the team's best plus/minus in Saturday's win, at +17.
Penn ended the season with a 17-10 record, going 7-7 in Ivy League play.
