How It Happened
Senior
Simone Sawyer got things started with a driving layup for the game's first basket. Alyssa Moreland of Brown quickly followed for the Bears' first basket before Penn went on a four point swing to gain some momentum. Brown battled back to retake the lead at 9-8 before both teams went cold offensively, failing to score til the final seconds of the first quarter as Grace Arnolie hit a buzzer beating three to give the Bears a 12-8 lead.
Moreland opened up the second quarter with a layup as Brown took a six point lead. But Penn found success on the offensive glass and second chance points as they kept the Bears from taking full control. Sawyer got a steal and pushed it down the court for a layup as Penn pulled within a point halfway through the second quarter. The senior guard totaled 11 points in the quarter, including the final four points of the first half as she willed the Quakers to a five point halftime lead. The Quakers exploded offensively in the quarter, scoring 26 points to Brown's 17 as Penn led 34-29 at halftime.
Tina Njike extended the Quaker lead to seven in the first 10 seconds of the second half with a layup underneath. Brown responded with a shot from behind the arc by Beth Nelson and a driving layup by Ada Anamekwe as they cut into the Quakers lead. The Bears regained the lead midway through the third quarter as a second chance layup by Moreland put Brown up 38-37.
Katie Collins followed with a personal five point run as the Quakers went back up by four.
Brooke Suttle and Collins nailed threes and Sawyer knocked down a pair of free throws on an 8-0 run for Penn with under three minutes left as they took an 11 point lead. A pair of free throws from Moreland made it 52-43 at the end of the third as the Quakers led heading into the fourth.
Collins opened up the final quarter with another three as the Quakers went up by 12. Brown attempted to make a comeback but the Quakers relied on their starters and a pair of buckets by
Abby Sharpe off the bench to outscore the Bears in the final quarter 17-13. Penn finished off the 2025-26 season with their 17th win of the year.
