WBB Dominates Dartmouth in Hanover, 89-66

HANOVER, N.H.  – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team cruised to a 89-66 win over Dartmouth in Hanover on Saturday night.

Penn improved to 16-10 overall, 6-7 in Ivy League play; Dartmouth to 10-16, 1-12 in Ivy League play.

Quaker Notemeal
* Simone Sawyer led all scorers with 23 points, one point shy of her career high.

* Tina Njike had a career-high 19 points, with eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.

* Mataya Gayle (16) and Katie Collins (15) also scored in double figures for Penn.

* Penn shot 58 percent from the floor, 37/63.

* The Quakers won the rebound battle, 34-25.

* Penn never trailed in the game.

* The Quakers moved the ball extremely well, tallying 24 assists.

* Penn swept Dartmouth in the season series.

* The 33 point victory was Penn's largest over a Division I opponent this season.

How It Happened
The Quakers were in control literally right from the tip as Katie Collins found Simone Sawyer for a layup just four seconds into the game. Sawyer and Tina Njike followed with back-to-back threes as Penn took an 8-0 lead, hitting all of their first three shots. The Red and Blue were scorching hot from behind the arc as they began the game four of five from downtown. Sawyer added her third three-pointer of the opening quarter with just over four minutes left as Penn went up 20-4.The senior guard finished the first quarter with 13 points, hitting all three of her attempts from behind the arc as Penn led 31-13.

Njike began the second quarter with a layup inside as Penn took a 20 point lead. The Big Green matched Penn's offensive production in the second quarter as they began to find a rhythm starting with back-to-back threes by Nina Minicozzi. But the Penn offense continued to flourish as the Quakers hit 15 of their first 18 shot attempts, shooting an incredible 83 percent from the field. Collins ended the first half with a reverse layup and-1 as Penn led 51-32 at the break.

Penn continued their excellent offensive display in the third quarter as they shot 47 percent and added another 20 points before the final quarter. A pair of free throws from Mataya Gayle gave Penn a 71-48 lead heading into the fourth as the game was just about decided. Sawyer drove in for two for Penn's first basket of the fourth quarter as she crossed the 20 point mark for the third time this season. A layup by Gayle extended the Quaker lead back to 20 in the remaining three minutes of the quarter. The Quakers 33 point win was the largest over a Division I opponent this season as they spoiled Dartmouth's Senior Day.

The Quakers will play the final game of the season against Brown at the Palestra on Saturday, March 7th.
