PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams opened the outdoor season on Saturday, Mar. 22 hosting the Penn Challenge at Franklin Field.
Angeludi Asaah ranks third in the NCAA, first in the East Region, in the women's discus with a personal-best mark of 56.52m (185' 5"). Asaah's mark ranks second on the Quakers all-time performance list.
Quaker Notemeal - Top Finishers
Sprints / Hurdles
Jake Rose won the men's 110m hurdles clocking in a personal-best time of 14.04, tied for the fourth fastest time in program history.
Chikaodinaka Akazi placed first in the women's 100m H with a personal-best time of 13.98.
Sarah Dumas crossed first in the 400m H at 1:02.09.
Quakers swept the women's 400-meters as
Jocelyn Niemiec crossed the finish line first (53.93), followed by
Christiana Nwachuku in second (55.95) and
Simone Castelluccio in third (57.20).
Ryan Matulonis opened the outdoor season finishing first in the 400m with a time of 47.72.
Distance
Nora Wollen,
Anastasia Russell, and
Sarah Fischer went 1-2-3 in the women's 3000m. Wollen led the first 2000m of the race before being slightly overtaken by Russell with two laps to go. Wollen quickly moved back into first and held on across the finish line clocking in at 9:53.20. Russell claimed second at 9:54.75, Fischer third (9:55.78).
Nicolas Pizarro finished first in the men's 1500m recording a personal-best time of 3:51.57.
Brady Golomb placed third at 3:52.61.
Freshman
Quin Stovall clocked in first in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:30.28.
Katie Pou finished third (4:31.51).
Benjamin Markham stopped the clock at 1:51.19 in the men's 800m, finishing first.
Edwin Klanke followed closely behind in second at 1:51.51.
Throws
Elias Chase made his collegiate-debut on Saturday placing first in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 57.41m (188' 4")
Pole Vault
Kai Eisenhardt finished first in the women's pole vault clearing the bar at 3.88m (12' 8.75"). Ben Sachta won the men's event at a height of 5.03m (16' 6").
