PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving team's Matthew Fallon was named PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Year on Monday afternoon.

Fallon, a junior from Warren, N.J., finished as the year's runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division I Championships, earning first-team All-America honors for the second time in his career. His time of 1:48.48 set a new Ivy League and Penn record and is the seventh-fastest in NCAA history. He also qualified for the national championships in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished tied for 18th place (51.92).

Fallon repeated as the Ivy League champion in the 200 breast, posting a championship and pool record time of 1:49.75, and garnered First Team All-Ivy accolades. He also was second-team All-Ivy in the 100 breast.

His success has not been limited to the collegiate ranks, as he has won two United States national titles in the 200 breaststroke and was the bronze medalist in the event at the 2023 World Championships. Fallon's performance on the international stage made him the first Penn swimmer to medal at worlds.

In addition, Fallon was the 2023 U.S. Open champion in the 200 breast with a meet-record time of 2:09.48. He is poised to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis at the end of June, hoping to qualify for the U.S. National Team in the Paris Olympics in August.
