INDIANAPOLIS – Junior
Matthew Fallon very nearly saw himself qualify for the final session of the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday afternoon but came up just one spot short of being an alternate and two spots off the cut for a B-Final at the NCAA Championships at IU Natatorium.
Â
Fallon swam a 51.92, tying himself with Ivy foe and Brown swimmer Jack Kelly for 18th place, the final alternate spot for tonight's finals. Kelly advanced as the representative by way of a coin flip after the trials were finished Friday afternoon.
Â
The Warren, N.J. native's next challenge will be his signature event, the 200 breast on Saturday as he looks to improve upon his No. 2 seed and become Penn's second men's national champion in program history and first since Chris Swanson in 2016. Fallon won the Ivy League title in the event at the beginning of this month.
Â
Trials begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m., both streamed live on ESPN+.
