PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team sits in second place after the first day of the Big Al Invitational at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
Junior
Anna Moehn had the Quakers' lone victory in the 500 freestyle, while sophomore
Katya Eruslanova set the school record in the 200 IM as Penn tallied 256 points, trailing only Princeton heading into Saturday's events.
Quaker Notemeal
*Eruslanova qualified for the B-Final of the 200 IM, but still put up the fastest time in program history with a 1:59.52. It's the first sub-2:00 time in the event, topping her own record (2:00.03) from earlier this year.
Kayla Fu nearly beat it in the A-Final with a time of 2:00.53 with
Izzy Pytel taking seventh (2:03.00) and
Meredith Holcomb (2:03.30) in eighth.
*Moehn won the 500 free with a time of 4:41.61, an NCAA B-Cut mark.
Sydney Bergstrom took third (4:49.01), while
Jenna Jacobs finished eighth with a time of 4:58.43.
*Fu placed sixth in the 50 free with a time of 23.45, with
Amy Qin taking seventh at 23.48.
*Penn found success in the 200 free relay with a third-place finish for Qin, Fu,
Maggie Hu, and
Keara McGowan at 1:32.03.
