ATLANTA, Ga. – Sydney Bergstrom and
Anna Moehn competed in the 1650 freestyle event at the NCAA Championships Wednesday night, coming in 12th and 16th place, respectively. The placements for both swimmers earn them Second Team All-American status.
Bergstrom was the top finisher for Penn, coming in 12th place with a time of 16:04.94. She greatly improved on her time and placement from last year, placing 36th with a time of 16:20.77. Bergstrom's jump was indicated from her performance at the Ivy League Championships, where she placed first and earned First Team All-Ivy.
Moehn also had a great finish, improving on last year's 21st placement (16:03.51) with a 16th overall finish at 16:08.76.
The top 16 finishes for both swimmers earn them Second Team All-American status, something achieved only two other times in program history. Anna Kalandadze and Cathy Buroker are the only other Penn women's swimmers to earn such an honor, both doing it in the 1650 freestyle as well.
Both Quakers represented the Red and Blue well, placing in the top 16 out of 40 swimmers. This finish is indicative of the season women's swimming had. The program will look to build on this year's efforts next year and beyond.
