PRINCETON, N.J. – There's a new sheriff in town and her name is
Anna Kalandadze. The senior from the University of Pennsylvania women's swimming & diving team picked up her first career Ivy League title in the 500-yard freestyle as the Quakers placed 1-2-3 in the event.
Kalandadze's blistering-fast time of 4:38.58 was not only the fastest mark of the night, but it also set a new DeNunzio Pool record. Senior
Catherine Buroker came in second, while freshman
Anna Moehn registered a third-place finish to complete the 1-2-3 podium sweep.
The Quakers end the second day of competition in fifth place with 312 points, edging out Brown (248.5), Cornell (212) and Dartmouth (100.5).
Quaker Notemeal
*Kalandadze, Buroker and Moehn came into Thursday's finals session the favorites to take home the medals after finishing in the same order during the prelim swims earlier in the day. Buroker swam a 4:43.86 to finish second, while Moehn finished with a 4:45.48 to place third.
*Kalandadze broke a pool record set a Princeton pool record previously held by Harvard's Miki Dahlke (4:40.26) from 2019.
*Kalandadze's victory in the 500 free at Ivy Championships marks the second straight year the Quakers won a title in the event (
Lia Thomas, 4:37.32).
*All three times in the event were NCAA B-Cut times.
*Freshman
Sydney Bergstrom won the B Final with her NCAA B-Cut time of 4:47.13.
Bridget O'Leary took fifth (4:53.49) with
Amelia Girotto in eighth (4:58.19).

Emma Stolberg was fourth in the C-Final with her time of 4:56.61.

Izzy Pytel placed swam to a sixth-place finish in the B-Final of the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.01).

Anna Boeckman took second in the C-Final with a time of 2:01.57.

Abby Wickersham placed third in the 50-yard freestyle C-Final with a time of 23.19.
*The Quakers took seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Wickersham,
Margot Kaczorowski,
Amber Smith and Moehn swam a 1:32.43.

It'll be another busy day on Friday with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 10 back and 400 medley relay taking place on the third day of Ivy League Championships at DeNunzio Pool. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. with finals once again taking place at 6 p.m. Both sessions will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required).
