Quaker Notemeal
*Penn went 5-5 in dual meets on the season with a 2-5 record in Ivy League duals. The Quakers were 3-2 inside Sheerr Pool and 0-3 away from home with a 2-0 record in neutral site meets.
*In a similar setup to Ivies, Penn swam to a third-place finish at the Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio back in early December.
*During that meet, sophomore
Izzy Pytel broke the Quakers' only school record of the season so far, a 2:13.98 in the 200-yard breaststroke. She snapped teammate
Anna Boeckman's mark of 2:14.75 set in 2022.
*The Quakers return an individual Ivy champion in
Catherine Buroker, who has won a total of four Ivy titles in two events in two seasons. Buroker claimed both the 1,000 and 1,650-yard freestyle crown back in 2019 and followed that up with a victorious performance in the same two events in 2022.
*Aside from Buroker,
Margot Kaczorowski and
Camryn Carter also claimed Ivy titles as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay last season, where they swam a time of 3:17.80 to finish first.
*Penn won a total of six Ivy titles last season—three for
Lia Thomas, two for Buroker and the relay—to finish in third place out of eight teams.
*Senior
Anna Kalandadze is going to be a name to watch out for the Quakers in the distance races, the biggest threat to Buroker's reign at the top. She heads into the meet with the seventh-fastest time in the nation in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:40.31) and the ninth-fastest time in the nation for the mile (16:07.95), both top marks in the Ivy League this year.
