Baseball Continues Liberty Bell Classic With Delaware State Home Game Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball hosts Delaware State University in a Liberty Bell Classic game on Tuesday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch from Meiklejohn Stadium.
 
Each team is coming off home losses in LBC action last Tuesday, with the Quakers falling to Lafayette and the Hornets falling to Villanova.

The Series: Delaware State
In the only prior matchup between the teams, Penn swept a doubleheader in Dover, Del. on March 11, 2014. The 4-1 (Game 1) and 17-9 (Game 2) wins were the first as head coach for John Yurkow, who had taken over the program the previous summer.
 
NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*Through two Ivy series, the #QuakeShow rank among the top three in in batting average (.310), extra-base hits (27), home runs (12), and slugging percentage (.533). On the mound, Penn's among the top three in WHIP (1.4), strikeouts (67), and opponents' batting average (.256), while sporting a conference-best .968 fielding percentage.  

*Jackson Appel is hitting .458 through the first two Ivy series (8th in conference) with a 1.650 OPS (2nd in conference) thanks to a conference-leading five home runs. Ben Miller also ranks among the top 20 hitters with a .385 average and 1.179 OPS and ranks second, trailing only Appel in runs scored through the first two Ivy weekends.

*Kevin Eaise is one of only three pitchers with two Ivy League wins, while his 2.45 ERA and 15 strikeouts are both ranks and his .214 opponent batting average ranks sixth among all conference hurlers.

Scouting Delaware State
The Hornets took three of four from Norfolk State over the weekend to move to .500 in Lehigh in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play.
 
Delaware State's loss to Villanova last Tuesday was their first home game since March 6; the Hornets have played just four of their 21 games at home this season.
 
Trey Page and Alan Alonso are both hitting over .320, but as a team, Delaware State's hitting just .258 this season.
 
On the mound, Peter Carreca's 2.95 ERA leads the team, and is one of eight hurlers with at least 10 strikeouts this season. Ethan Edelson has allowed just two earned runs in his last 10 innings, lowering his ERA to 4.08.
