PHILADELPHIA – Three members of the University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team are set to compete in the 2022 NCAA Championships later this week in Atlanta.
Senior
Lia Thomas and juniors
Catherine Buroker and
Anna Kalandadze will represent the Red and Blue on the national stage from March 16-19 on the campus of Georgia Tech at McAuley Aquatic Center. Thomas will swim the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free while Buroker and Kalandadze will take part in both the 500 free and the 1,650 free.
All three Quakers will swim in the 500 free on Thursday. Prelims get underway at 10 a.m each day. Swimmers that qualify for the A Final (top-eight times) will be first-team All-America and compete for a national title, while those that make the B Final (ninth-16th fastest marks) will be second-team All-America selections. The finals begin each night at 6 p.m.
Thomas is swimming in the 200 free on Friday and the 100 free on Saturday, while Buroker and Kalandadze are swimming in the 1,650 free on Saturday. There are no prelims for the 1650 free. The same All-America rules for finishing apply. The top eight will be first-team All-America and the 9-16 finishers will be second-team honorees.
