NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams opened day one of the 2022 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor T&F Championships on Saturday, led by
Mayyi Mahama claiming the weight throw title and two Quakers setting program records.
Â
Mahama claimed the lone title for the day, landing 21.41m on her third attempt in the weight throw. The toss was over two meters further than the second-place finisher, as she wins the event for the second-straight year.
Â
The program records were set in the long jump and the 60m hurdle preliminaries. On the infield,
Victoria Agyin earned a podium spot with a second-place finish in the long jump, landing 6.11m. The distance topped former Penn athlete Elena Brown-Soler's 6.01m back in 2020. In the 60m hurdles,
Skyla Wilson erased her previous program record time with a first-place time of 8.31, tying the 2020 championship time. She tops her record time of 8.35 that she set a few weeks ago.
Â
Joining Wilson in the hurdles was
Shevell Higgs and
Katherine Muccio, who both qualified for Sunday's final. Higgs closed a time of 8.66 to move to sixth in program history, while Muccio was close behind with 8.75. Muccio also qualified for the finals in the 60m, taking seventh with a time of 7.71.

Â
Back on the infield,

Â
On the men's side, several record book moves happened in the 60m and 500m.
Dimitri Nicholson narrowly missed the qualifying mark with his ninth place finish and time of 6.85, but his mark improved his personal best holding him at fourth in program history.
Â
In the 500m,
Antaures Jackson took fifth (1:04.01) and
Robbie Ruppel took eighth (1:04.30) to both qualify for Sunday's final. Jackson's 1:04.01 was enough to move him into 10th in program history.
