CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team concluded action at the 2022 Ivy League Championships on Saturday at Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University.
The Quakers finished in third place with a score of 1,256 points after 21 events. The host Crimson won the Ancient Eight crown with a score of 1,503.5 points. Yale came in second place at 1,258 points and Princeton was fourth with 1,074 points.
The 1,256 points were the most the Red and Blue have ever scored at the Ivy League Championships, topping the previous high mark of 1,073 set back in 2007. On the last day of the meet, Penn also set four new program records. It was also the highest ever finish for Penn at the Ivy League Championships as well.
Penn started the final night of action on a high note with four Quakers finishing in the top six of the 1650 free. Junior
Catherine Buroker won the 1650 Ivy League title thanks to touching in an NCAA B Cut time of 16:21.17. She won the Ancient Eight title in the event for the second time.
Anna Kalandadze finished third in the 1650 free with a time of 16:28.85.
Grace Giddings (16:37.79) was fifth in the event and
Amelia Girotto (16:41.17) came in sixth.
Hannah Kannan was fifth in the A Final of the 200 back thanks to touching at 1:57.54.
Camryn Carter came in second in the C Final of the 200 back with a time 2:01.70.
Lia Thomas won the 100 free with a new meet, pool and program record time of 47.63 in the A Final.
Margot Kaczorowski was sixth in the 100 free with a time of 49.86.
Izzy Pytel finished in fourth place in the A Final of the 200 breast with a new program record time of 2:15.11, while
Anna Boeckman came in eighth at 2:16.12.
Grace Estabrook won the B Final of the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.02.
Hannah Liu was fifth in the B final with a time of 2:17.99 and
Rachel Maizes was sixth at 2:18.20.
Vannessa Chong finished in second in the A Final of the 200 fly with a new program record time of 1:58.17.
Joy Jiang came in second place in the B Final of the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.99 and
Anderson Myers was fourth at 2:02.00.
To close the night, the 400 free relay of
Lia Thomas,
Margot Kaczorowski,
Hannah Kannan and
Camryn Carter put an exclamation point on a record-breaking week at Harvard, finishing first with a pool and program record time of 3:17.80. It marked the first time in program history that Penn has won a relay at the Ivy League Championships.
At the conclusion of the meet,
Lia Thomas was honored as the High-Point Swimmer of the Meet.
