PRINCETON – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming program rounded out competition at the 2019 Ivy League Championships, finishing in fifth place with 865.5 points. The Quakers won two individual Ivy League Championships and set five program records. Over the week, Penn swimmers set 33 season best times and 26 career best swims.
Catherine Buroker started the day in record-breaking fashion. The freshman raced to an Ivy League Championship in the 1,650 free and set a program record with a 16:11.06 finish.
Erin Kiely finished eighth in the 1,650 free, clocking in at 16:38.39.
On Friday, Buroker won the 1,000 free and got the program record after a 9:40.04 finish. Buroker took down records set by former Penn star Shelby Fortin. Fortin was a three-time Ivy Champion in both the 200 free and 500 free and won the 1,000 free during her freshman year in 2011.
Tara Larusso and
Hannah Kannan both qualified for the 'A' final in the 200 back. Larusso finished sixth with a 1:58.87 finish while Kannan finished seventh, clocking in at 2:00.81.
Monika Burzynska and
Anderson Myers qualified for the 200 fly 'A' final. Burzynska finished fifth (1:59.65) and Myers placed eighth (2:01.75).
Other notable finishes for Penn include second place for
Serena Xue in the 200 breast 'B' final (2:17.20), third for
Katie Kiely in the 200 back 'C' final (2:00.96)
Penn closed out the meet as a team of K. Kiely, Larusso, Maizes, and Myers finished eighth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:28.87.

The men's swimming program is next up to compete in the Ivy League Championships, which will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and continue through March 2 in Providence, R.I.
