CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Pennsylvania was represented by Ava Rosati and Reina Kern as being Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholars of Distinction, while nine others were named to the National Academic Squad which was announced on Wednesday.

In addition to Kern and Rosati, the other women who were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad were Chelsea Duggan, Haley Gelberg, Gina Guccione, Claire Kneizys, Jasmine Li, Paige Meily, Kelsey Mendell, Alexa Murray, and Karen Seid.

Additionally, the Quakers were one of 76 schools who achieved a minimum team grade-point average of a 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

The Quakers are regulars on the yearly lists as one of the top academic achieving teams in the country.

Penn concluded the 2016 season with an 11-6 record and played five teams ranked in the national polls following the conclusion of the season, including taking Delaware, the 2016 national champions, into double-overtime on the road. The Quakers went 4-3 in Ivy League play to finish third in the conference standings behind Princeton and Harvard – both of whom were selected into the NCAA Tournament.

The Quakers also saw several individuals earn accolades during the season, including three All-Ivy honorees (Alexa Hoover, Alexa Schneck, Paige Meily), two NFHCA All-Region selections (Schneck, Hoover), as well as Hoover being named an NFHCA Second-Team All-American.
