How it Happened
The Quakers attacked early as
Julia Ryan scored her seventh goal of the season in the opening minutes of the first quarter.
Penn's defense also held strong, not allowing Columbia any shots in the first 15 minutes.
Columbia goalkeeper Margot Houle made it difficult for the Quaker offense to extend their lead, saving a pair of shots in the opening quarter.
Despite Penn's persistent aggression on offense, the second quarter was quiet for both teams as neither scored.
The Quakers led 1-0 heading into the halftime locker room, while outshooting the Lions 5-1.
Both teams struggled to penetrate the other's defense in the third quarter as Penn recorded the only shot of the quarter.
Columbia's Ashley Kim finally put the Lions on the scoreboard as the game was suddenly tied in the fourth quarter, 1-1.
Both teams fought tooth and nail to emerge victorious in the final minutes.
With just over two minutes left to play,
Honor Roberts broke away down field and found her teammate in the circle.
Livia Loozen came up clutch, finding the back of the net as the Quakers went on to win, 2-1.
