Field Hockey Wins Third Straight, Defeating Temple 3-2

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team defeated Temple on Sunday, 3-2, winning its third consecutive game of the season.

The Quakers won their seventh game of the season, the Owls lost their fifth game overall.

How it Happened
The Quakers were in control for the majority of the opening quarter, pushing the tempo on offense and not allowing easy opportunities defensively.

Temple goalkeeper Alex Lepore denied Penn's aggressive offense to score early as she recorded a pair of saves in the first quarter.

The Owls took the first lead of the game as Peyton Rieger scored her eighth goal of the year in the 12th minute.

Penn responded in the second quarter as Darcey Chapman found Honor Roberts cutting in the circle as she tied the game, 1-1.

Philine Klas added another goal for the Red and Blue a short time later as the Quakers found themselves leading 2-1 at halftime.

The Quakers held the momentum heading into the second half after outshooting the Owls 6-2 and leading 3-1 in corners over the first 30 minutes.

The Owls came out firing early in the third quarter, but Ruby de Frees recorded a pair of impressive saves for Penn.

Beau Lilly Barrington-Hibbert added another goal for the Quakers at the end of the third quarter as Penn extended its lead to two.

The fourth quarter was quiet early until Temple's Rieger scored her second goal with under five minutes left in the game.

Temple had an opportunity to tie the game off a penalty corner with under a minute left, but the Quakers defense held on.

The Red and Blue will face Yale at home on Friday and Saint Joseph's away on Sunday next weekend.
