NEW YORK - The University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team boasted three individual champions at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships, their most since 2006, en route to a fifth-place team finish. The Quakers totaled 65 points over the weekend and boasted six podium performances.
Senior captainÂ
Chris Hatler began Sunday at The Armory with the mile racing, becoming the first Quaker sine 2006 to win the mile race with a time of 4:10.93. Hatler hung around near the beginning of the race until the final few laps that saw him surge in front and never look back.
Penn's second championship performance came in the form of sophomoreÂ
Calvary Rogers, who became the first-ever Quaker to take home gold in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 21.39, a new #IvyHeps meet record and the No. 2 time in school history. Rogers ran an unconventional race, as the other competitors in his heat scrated/DQ'ed, leaving him alone to soar to first with no one around.Â
Nick Tuck found a spot on the podium for the second time in one weekend, this time taking the top spot in the 5K race with a time of 14:16.44, the second-best time in school history. Like Rogers, Tuck made history of his own becoming the first Quaker to win the 5K at the Indoor #IvyHeps.Â
Kevin Monogue wasn't far behind, finishing sixth for Penn with a time of 14.26.79, which ranks seventh in Penn record books.Â
Earlier in the day,Â
Jeff Wiseman took home a silver medal in the 500 with a time of 1:03.80 for eight Penn points.Â
Noah Kennedy-White placed a podium performance in the shot put, throwing for a personal-best distance of 17.31 meters to finish third and improve his already established No. 2 mark in Penn record books.Â
William Bishop finished sixth with a throw of 16.46 meters.Â
