How It Happened

Penn 0, Harvard 0
Harvard wasted no time making an impact on this game. Following a scoreless top of the first from Penn that saw Jade Montgomery get on base, Harvard blasted a two-run shot from Sophie Sun to put the Crimson up early.

Following a 1-2-3 second from Penn, the Quakers found a little rhythm in the third inning. Penn got a baserunner on when Jaz Johnson laid down a perfect bunt to get on base before stealing second. Gigi Ganje walked to make it first and second with one down. However, Penn could not capitalize and left both runners stranded.

Harvard continued to mount offensive pressure. A single from Hannah Ziecik and an error off Jaz Johnson gave the Crimson first and second with no outs. A sacrifice bunt would make it second and third before a liner just over Johnson's glove gave Harvard another run. The Crimson would capitalize again, scoring the remaining two runners on base with a single to right field before the inning was out, making it a 5-0 game.

The fifth inning saw Harvard get three more across the plate when a bases loaded bloop to right field scored two and an immediate single to right field scored the final tally before the 8-0 run rule took effect.

Harvard 11 Penn 6
Things looked like they may take a turn for the better in game two. The Quakers got on the board fast when freshman Peyton Heisler roped her first collegiate home run to put up 1-0. Jade Montgomery added to the total with a home run of her own after Harvard answered with three runs.

The game then took a turn for the Crimson, as they went on an 7-0 run to bring the Quakers within one half inning a stoppage after five innings once more.

The Red and Blue made an effort to comeback, scoring three in the top of the fifth inning to avoid the run rule. It would not be enough, though, and the Quakers would fall to the Crimson.
