How It Happened
Brown 5, Penn 2
Game one was a classic case of getting down early and not being able to climb back for the Quakers. The Red and Blue got into a swift three-run deficit in this one following a Macy Borowski triple and Kaicee Klus single in the first inning.
An Ellie Thompson single would complicate matters more in the fourth inning, making it a 4-0 ballgame by the top of the fifth inning.
Jade Montgomery did her part to aid the cause, delivering a two-RBI single to give Penn its two runs in the game.
The Bears' Macy Borowski showed why she is among the best Ivy League pitchers, going all seven against the Quakers with five strikeouts.
Brown would add one more to the total before the game's end to give Penn a 5-2 loss.
Brown 10, Penn 9
Penn, knowing it was a win or go home game, got out in front early and often in game two. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Penn rallied with four runs in the third inning.
Gigi Ganje roped a three-run triple while
Dani Freer provided a sacrifice fly to put Penn up three.
The Bears would not be dissuaded and fired back with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Macy Borowski delivered two more RBI to keep her good day going.
Jade Montgomery did the same when she added an RBI to make things 6-5, Brown.
The Bears continued to mount offensive pressure to the tune of four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Penn continued to claw back, however, as sophomore Ganje once again found third base off a triple that scored
Megan Huang. Ganje would later score off am
Alexis Youngren base knock.
Down three heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Quakers began to find just the rally they needed. Multiple base hits led Penn to a bases loaded, two-out situation down 10-9. Unfortunately, a groundout would end the game and end the Quakers' chance at the Ivy League Tournament.
