How It Happened
Princeton 6, Penn 0
Squaring off against the Ivy perfect Tigers would always be a tall order, and it proved to be just that for the Quakers. The Quakers weren't able to get it going in game 1 of the day, producing just four hits on the day from
Delaney Smith,
Gigi Ganje,
Jade Montgomery, and
Hannah Graveline.
The Quakers had opportunities, leaving six runners stranded and weren't quite able to find the offensive rhythm.
Princeton on the other hand came in with a fire, putting 12 hits and six runs on the board throughout the course of the seven innings from eight different players.
Princeton 6, Penn 5
Penn seemingly found their groove between games, quickly putting three runs on the board from a
Jade Montgomery single in the first, an
Alexis Youngren double in the second, and a Princeton error in the same frame.
Princeton responded in short order, however. Top Tiger Julia Dumais cracked a three-run homer to level the tally.
Two innings would go by before Princeton rallied to take back the lead. Zhang and Dominguez brought Tigers across the dish to give Princeton a 6-5 upper hand.
The back and forth continued when Penn got
Jade Montgomery on base from an error, an error which would result in the tying score from a
Maia Hartley sacrifice fly.
However, it would not be enough in the end, as a Jessica Phelps hit up the middle would walk off Penn and leave the Quakers with an 0-2 record on the day.
