Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C.– The University of Pennsylvania softball team wrapped up play at the Lowcountry Classic, falling to Charleston, 10-8. The loss for the Quakers drops them to 3-2, while the win for Charleston brings them to 7-4.

* Sophomore Gigi Ganje continues to run hot, hitting her fourth homerun of the year against Charleston.

* Three Quakers (Dani Freer, Delaney Smith, Alexis Youngren) had a multi-hit game.

* Sophomore Ainsley Pemberton had four strikeouts in the loss. The Quakers struck out six total.
 
How It Happened
After starting the year with a five-year best record of 3-1, Penn looked like they were well on their way to 2026's fourth win. The Quakers found themselves up 8-0 after two innings with sophomore Gigi Ganje continuing to lead the charge. Ganje delivered her fourth long ball of the season, three more than the entirety of her 2025 season.

The first inning also saw senior Jade Montgomery deliver a bases-clearing double, her second and third RBI of the year. Freshman Jaz Johson and senior Delaney Smith added to the total with RBI singles.

Then the tides turned. The Cougars answered as quickly as they got down, putting up four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to make it a one-run game after four frames. The Quakers tried to slow down Charleston but just weren't able to keep the gap closed.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the count sitting at 3-2, sophomore Lily Thorpe delivered for the Cougars, cracking a two-run shot that put Charleston up 9-8. A ground out RBI from Austy Miller made it 10-8, the score that would end as the final.
