PHILADELPHIA – It only took three games for the University of Pennsylvania baseball team to get their first weekly award winner as freshman right-handed pitcher
Sebastian Haggard was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.
Haggard put together a solid relief appearance in Penn's 5-3 loss at No. 9 Florida State Saturday afternoon, pitching 2.1 shutout innings in his collegiate debut with one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
He was a key member of the bullpen that held the Seminoles without a run for the final four innings and allowed the Quakers to attempt a comeback down 5-0.
Penn continues action down south this weekend against another nationally-ranked opponent in No. 21 Troy. The three-game series begins Friday with first pitch set for 5 p.m. ET.
