Cross Country Set to Open 2024 Season at New Jersey Jam

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's cross country squads open the 2024 campaign on Friday at the New Jersey Jam, hosted by Princeton. The men's 5.6k is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the women's 4k at 6:30 p.m. at Princeton's Meadows Campus. Live Results 

This will mark the first of three showings for the Quakers on the course this season, returning on Oct. 18 for the Princeton Fall Classic and then the Ivy Heptagonal Championships on Nov. 2. 

The Quakers return junior Lily Murphy and senior Bronwyn Patterson to lead the women's team. Murphy claimed gold in the 10,000m ( 32:45.88) and bronze in the 5000m (15:56.68) at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships in Princeton, N.J. on May 4-5. Patterson crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:04.12 in the 800m. 

Junior Sahil Dodda finished sixth in the men's 5000m with a career-best time of 14:16.25 at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships. 

2023 XC Championship Highlights: 
Lily Murphy finished 20th at the NCAA DI Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships with a personal-best 6k time of 20:24.1. Brownyn Patterson crossed fourth for the women's team finishing 30th with a career-best time of 20:49.8. Patterson 

On the men's team, Sahil Dodda and Luke Johnson crossed the finish line first and second for the Quakers at the NCAA DI Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships, respectively. Dodda scored 22nd in the men's 10k with a personal-best time of 30:07.7, followed by Johnson in 29th clocking in with a personal-best time of 30:30.5.

Junior Dylan Throop will make his way back to the courses after nearly a year off from competing. Throop ended the 2023 cross country season finishing second at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships with a recorded time of 23:55.2. Throop competed in the 10,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays in April but did not finish.

Races in September: Penn will travel to State College, Pa. on Sept 13 to compete at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The Nittany Lions will also host the NCAA DI Mid-Atlantic Region Championships in November. 
On Sept. 20, the Quakers will make the short bus trip to Haverford, Pa. to compete at the Main Line Invitational.
