PRINCETON, N.J. - Penn's
Dylan Throop has been named the Ivy League Men's Athlete of the Week, announced the league on Tuesday.
Throop led the Quakers' effort in the men's gold 8k race, finishing fourth in his season debut with a time of 23:31.7. He started the day in 31st at the one-mile mark before making his way into the top five by the 5k checkpoint. He then found himself leading the pack of 394 athletes at the 6.3k mark, ultimately finishing fourth in the 8k.
Throop was the only athlete in the Ivy League to finish in the top five in the gold races at Lehigh.
"It was great to see Dylan compete so well at the Paul Short Run," said director
Steve Dolan. "This result was a very positive sign as to where his fitness is at this stage of the season. He is clearly a key low stick for our team and I'm looking forward to seeing what he and the team can accomplish when we get the championship meets later this fall.
The men's and women's cross country team travels to the Princeton, N.J. on Oct. 18 to compete at the Princeton Fall Classic.
