Throop and Johnson Prepare for NCAA Cross Country Championships

PHILADELPHIA – Dylan Throop and Luke Johnson are set to represent the University of Pennsylvania men's cross country team at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Madison, Wis.

Throop and Johnson advanced to the championships finishing third and sixth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, respectively.  Throop crossed the finish line first for the Quakers in the men's 10k with a time of 29:34.6, followed by Johnson in sixth with a time of 29:41.3. Individually, the first four finishers who did not belong to an automatic qualifier or an at-large team automatically advanced to the championships.

The Penn duo are the first two men to represent Penn at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 2021. Two-time All-American Dave Merrick holds the program-best finish at Penn finishing ninth at the 1975 Championships in State College, Pa. with a time of 29:05.2.

Throop paced Penn, finishing second in the Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championship men's 8k race, running the fastest time in program history at the Heptagonal Championships. He earned his second All-Ivy First Team cross country honors recording a personal-best time of 22:46.4.

Johnson clocked in second for the Quakers finishing 15th with a time of 23:25.9.
