BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania cross country teams traveled to Lehigh on Saturday to compete at the 50th Paul Short Run. Senior
Dylan Throop led the Quakers' effort in the men's gold 8k race, finishing fourth in his season debut with a time of 23:31.7.
Throop started the day in 31st at the one-mile mark before making his way into the top five by the 5k checkpoint. He then found himself leading the pack of 394 athletes at the 6.3k mark, ultimately finishing fourth in the 8k.
Senior
Luke Johnson crossed the finished line second for the Quakers with a time of 24:19.6. Overall, the Penn men placed 10th
out of 44 teams competing in the gold race, with 348 points.
In the women's gold 6k,
Miranda Schriver spearheaded the Quakers, recording a season-best time of 21:02.5. Freshman
Olivia Williams followed closely behind Schriver with a time of 21:05.2. The Penn women placed 14th out of 42 teams with 394 points.
Running against more than 500 athletes,
Anastasia Russell (21:48.1) and
Sarah Fischer (21:54.0) placed within the top 15 in the women's open 6k race clocking in 12th and 13th, respectively.
In the men's open 8k, the top five Penn men finished within 17 seconds of each other with freshman
Joseph Ruiz leading the way. Ruiz stopped the clock at 25:06.3 placing 31st, followed by
Shane Murphy (25:20.1) and
Liam Going (25:20.7). No team scores were awarded for the open races of the Paul Short Run.
QUAKER NOTEMEAL
- Penn men finished 10th in the gold race, defeating Penn State and La Salle who were ranked fourth and fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region, respectively.
- Senior Dylan Throop made his season debut and led the Quakers in the men's gold 8k race with a time of 23:31.7, finishing fourth.
- Miranda Schriver recording a season-best 6k time of 21:02.5.
- Anastasia Russell (21:48.1) and Sarah Fischer (21:54.0) placed within the top 15 in the women's open 6k race (12th and 13th, respectively.
