PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's head field hockey coach,
Colleen Fink, has announced her program's 2024 schedule.
"Penn Field Hockey is once again strategically positioned to play an exciting and challenging schedule," said Fink, who has been at the helm of the Penn program since the 2010 season. "We try to strike the perfect balance of playing national rivals, Ivy foes, and crosstown rivals. With our consistent approach to challenging ourselves nationally, we create opportunities for postseason play through our Ivy Tournament and strong RPI. Our program's core value of 'choosing challenge' crosses into all areas of our team culture including our strength of schedule."
Penn begins the 2024 campaign the weekend after Labor Day Weekend with the Crossover Classic, this year hosted by the University of Louisville and including defending NCAA champion North Carolina and Princeton. The Quakers will face the Tar Heels to open Friday's doubleheader and the Cardinals in the second half of Sunday's twinbill.
Penn plays city rivals in three of its next four games after the Crossover Classic, hosting Temple on Friday, Sept. 13 before making trips to Saint Joseph's (9/15) and Drexel (9/22) on consecutive Sundays. The only outlier during this run comes on Friday, Sept. 20 when the Quakers begin Ivy League play with archrival Princeton at Ellen Vagelos Field at 3 p.m.
The next two weekends see Penn playing Ivy games on Friday and non-conference games on Sunday. The first of those weekend, the Quakers are at Yale before coming back to Philly and hosting American. A week later, Penn hosts Columbia on Friday and regional rival Villanova on Sunday.
A rare one-game weekend comes on Friday, Oct. 11 when Penn travels to Dartmouth for an Ivy League contest. The Red and Blue is home for four straight games after that, with Cornell and Richmond coming to town the following weekend and defending Ivy League champion Harvard and Delaware in town the weekend after that. The regular season ends at Brown on Saturday, Nov. 2.
For the second straight year, the top four teams in the Ivy League standings will meet for the Ivy League Tournament to determine the league's NCAA Championship bid. That event will run the weekend of November 8-10, with semifinals on the Friday and the championship game on the Sunday.
