NEW YORK, N.Y. – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team narrowly fell 4-3 to #44 Columbia on Sunday afternoon in New York City.
Sabine Rutlauka, Maya Urata, and Esha Velaga each won their bout against the Lions to account for #70 Penn's three points in the match.
Freshman Velaga tied the contest at one after taking down Anna Zhang 6-4 in back-to-back sets to open the singles round of the day.
Sophomore Urata won her 14th sixth slot battle of the year in two sets over Sophia Wang (6-4, 6-4) to cut Columbia's lead to 3-2.
Junior Rutlauka won the Quakers' final match of the day in the #2 slot in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) over Fatima Keita to continue her spring season success.

The Quakers (14-6, 2-1) hit the road for a pair of matches in New England next weekend, kicking off the trip on Saturday, April 13, at Yale for a 1 p.m. battle.
