BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team finished its postponed match with Florida Atlantic on Friday afternoon, dropping a 4-3 contest on the road to the Owls.
The doubles round was decided in the initial match this past Thursday, with FAU clinching the points in the first slot.
The contest picked up on Friday morning mid-singles round, with junior Gavriella Smith tying the match at one after topping Carla Galmiche 7-5, 6-0. The Owls won back-to-back bouts to lead 3-1, but sophomore Maya Urata kept the match alive in the #6 slot, beating Amber McGinnis 6-3, 6-2 to cut the lead to 3-2.
Freshman Liza Tkachenko made things interesting in the #4 slot, edging Lexi Silna out 7-5, 6-0 to tie the battle at three. Ultimately, the Owls won the first slot contest to take the match 4-3.
