Softball To Face Houston Christian (DH) (Tues) and Prairie View A&M (Wed)

PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania softball team will conclude its trip to Texas with a pair of games against Houston Christian on Tuesday, followed by a matchup against Prairie View A&M on Wednesday afternoon.

The Quakers are 2-6 on the season, and most recently went 1-2 over the weekend in a two-day series against Lamar.

Previewing Penn
Penn went 1-2 this past weekend, in a three-game series against Lamar in Beaumont, Texas. On Saturday, the Quakers fell 1-0 in game one, and then dropped game two 7-5. On Sunday afternoon, The Red and Blue defeated Lamar 7-5 to close out the series with a win. Penn put up six runs within the first two innings which helped set the tone throughout the game. The Quakers added one more run in the top of the fifth when Maia Hartley drove in a run with a pinch-hit single down the right field line. On the day, Katie Reagan, Delaney Smith and Chloe Lesko each had two hits, with freshman, Lesko, driving in a career-high five RBIs. Freshman, Ella Utcschig earned her second career win, going five innings, surrendering three runs and striking out two. On the weekend, Reagan hit 500 (5-10) doubling and picking up three RBIs and scoring two runs. Lesko, Hit .364 (4-11) during a three-game series at Lamar. She had five RBIs in the final game of the series including a double and a stolen base.

At the Plate
Senior, Reagan still leads the Quakers in batting average, hitting .571 across eight games, Reagan leads the team with 12 hits, including three doubles and one triple. Reagan also leads the team with six RBIs, is slugging .810 and has an on base percentage of .609. Sophomore, Smith is second on the team with eight hits including one double and has scored three runs. Freshman, Megan Huang, has six hits, while Dana Anderson, Jade Montgomery, Sammy Fenton and Lesko each have five hits.

In the Circle
As a pitching staff, Penn has a 5.35 ERA, as Payton Bean leads the team with a 3.11 earned run average, has pitched 18 innings, and has struck out a team-leading 12 batters in three starts and one relief appearance. Utschig has made two starts for the Red and Blue, going 2-1, with 14.2 innings of work and six strikeouts.

Previewing the Huskies
Houston Christan is 11-6 to start the season, have one their last five games, and are 6-1 at home. The Huskies are coming off a three-game sweep of Stephen F. Austin on Friday and Saturday, not surrendering a single run throughout the weekend. Jasie Roberts is batting a team-high .348, leading the team in hits, with 16, two triples and is slugging .565. Haylie Savage is batting .292, has scored a team-leading 17 runs, has produced 14 hits and has driven in nine. Three different Huskies have two homeruns, totaling nine on the year. In the circle, Lyndie Swanson has a 2.14 ERA, in three starts, going 3-1 so far this season. Swanson has gone 32.2 innings and has struck out 31 batters. Ronnie Grofman has a 2.96 ERA in six total appearances, including five starts. Grofman has pitched three complete games and has struck out 22.
 
Previewing the Panthers
Prairie View A&M is 4-13 this season, dropping their last six games. The Panthers lost a doubleheader last Tuesday against Tarleton State 10-2 in five innings, and 7-6 in eight innings. Mia Nunez leads the team with 18 hits, six doubles, 11 RBIs and eight runs scored. Jaylyn Davis leads the team with a .382 batting average and has 13 hits and two homeruns. Aerin Talley has hit a team-leading three homers on the season. As far as pitching, Breanna Reyna leads the team with a 3.84 ERA in nine appearances, throwing three complete games. Cailin Massey leads the team with 40.2 innings of work and 13 strikeouts.
