PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is back at home this weekend and is set to open Ivy League play with a three-game series against Cornell. The Quakers will welcome the Big Red for a doubleheader on Friday and will play the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers are coming off a doubleheader loss to Delaware on Wednesday afternoon. In game one, a pair of extra-base hits in the third was enough to score a run for The Blue Hens as Penn fell 1-0. In the second game, Delaware jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and never surrendered, as the Red and Blue fell 7-1.

Jillian Kuntze had a pair of hits during the twin bill, as
Delaney Smith accounted for the lone RBI of the day.
The Quakers are 42-49 against the Big Red all time and dropped the three-game series last year in Ithaca. Over the last ten matchups the teams are 5-5 and at home Penn is 25-26 against Cornell.
At the Plate
Senior, and Philadelphia native,
Katie Reagan leads the team in batting average, hitting .400, hits (18), triples (3), RBIs (12) and total bases (25). Freshman
Megan Huang, sophomore
Delaney Smith and Reagan each have a team-high three doubles. Reagan also leads the team in slugging percentage (.556) and on-base percentage (.460).
Sammy Fenton is second on the team with 15 hits, while Brown and Huang have 14. Brown leads the team with eight stolen bases, as
Maia Hartley and
Chloe Lesko have grabbed five. Lesko has the lone homerun of the season for the Quakers, a two-run shot that came against Prairie View A&M for her first career homer.
As a team the red and blue are batting .277, have compiled 124 hits, have scored 73 runs and have driven in 59. As a team, the Quakers are slugging and have an on-base percentage of .362, with 28 stolen bases collectively.
In the Circle
Both
Payton Bean and
Rachel Riley have made eight appearances and have started seven games. Riley has tossed 38 innings and has struck out 11 with a 4.79 ERA. Bean has thrown 33.2 innings, has struck out 21 and leads the staff with a 3.95 ERA. In addition, Bean threw her first career complete-game shutout against Coppin State in game two on March 8. As a pitching staff, the Quakers have a 4.99 ERA, a 1.74 WHIP, have thrown three complete games and have struck out 43 batters.
In her last outing, Riley went six innings, surrendered three hits and one earned run. The junior struck out a batter, walked one in the first game of the doubleheader against Delaware.

Blake Landow,
Ella Utschig, Huang, Hartley and Lesko have all seen significant playing time as rookies. Huang and Lesko have been consistent members of the starting lineup for the Quakers, with Huang acting as a second leadoff rounding out the bottom of the lineup. Both Huang and Lesko have played in all 16 games, while Hartley has played in 13 and Landow has appeared in seven. In the circle, Utschig has made eight appearances and two starts. Hartley and Lesko are second on the team each with five stolen bases. Huang is tied for third on the team hits (14), second in RBIs (10) and second in total bases (19).
Previewing the Big Red
Cornell has lost nine straight and are 0-5 on the road. The Big Red are coming off a doubleheader loss against Binghamton this past weekend. Cornell fell 9-1 on Saturday and 6-0 on Sunday. Kate Callaway and Maddie Ullensvang grabbed three hits throughout the weekend, while Emma Antich added two. In game one, Maxine McCraw threw four innings, gave up seven hits, seven runs and struck out two. In game two, Madalyn Covelli tossed six innings gave up eight hits, six earned runs, walked three and struck out four.
Antich leads the team in batting average (.405), slugging percentage (.757) and on base percentage (.551). Lauren Holt leads the Big Red in hits (16), homeruns (4), RBIs (21) and total bases (32).
On the mound, Cornell has two arms that have each made 11 appearances. McCraw has a 5.78 ERA a 0-5 record, has made five starts and has thrown two complete games. The junior has tossed 36.1 innings, has struck out 16 and walked 11. Covelli has made five starts, has a 7.76 ERA and is 2-3. The sophomore has thrown 37 innings, given up 41 earned runs and has struck out 20.
