PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania softball team will head to Texas this weekend for a three-game series against Lamar, beginning a six-game trip in the Lone-Star State.
The Red and Blue will start the series on Saturday with a doubleheader and conclude the series on Sunday afternoon.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers are coming off a 1-4 trip at the Liberty Classic to open the 2024 season. Last Friday, Penn split a pair of games with Morgan State, defeating the Bears 8-7, in eight innings courtesy of a Brianna Bryant walk off single, and fell, 6-3, in game two. On Saturday, against Saint Francis, the Quakers lost 7-6 and then fell to Liberty 4-1. To wrap up the Liberty Classic, Penn fell 12-6, to Penn State. With the first win of the season, Head Coach Christie Novatin earned her first win at Penn, and her first win as a head coach.
At the Plate
Senior
Katie Reagan is swinging a hot bat to open the 2024 campaign. In Virginia, Reagan batted .636 (7-11), including two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Senior
Julia Mortimer collected four hits, scored three runs and four RBIs. Sophomore
Delaney Smith hit .313 (5-16), including a double and two runs scored. The Quakers have totaled 38 base-knocks, four doubles, three triples and 17 RBIs with 23 runs scored. As a team, the Red and Blue are batting .264 and slugging .333.

Previewing Lamar
The Cardinals are 9-6 to start the season, are 3-0 at home and have won their last six games. Lamar went 2-2 at the Cowgirl Classic to open up the season, and then competed in the Cowgirl Challenge, where the Cardinals went 1-3. Lamar then split a two-game series against Texas Southern, and then won all four games at the Lamar/McNeese Tournament. The Cardinals' most recent win came Wednesday evening, taking down Southern, 6-2. In the matchup, Shenita Tucker picked up a pair of hits, an RBI and scored a run. Trinity Brandon drove in two and delivered a hit. On the mound, Sabrina Jolin picked up her second win, pitched a complete game, surrendered eight hits, two earned runs and struck out three.
On the season, Tucker leads the team with 21 knocks,15 runs and is batting .438. Jayne Sepulveda has 21 hits and a team-leading 13 RBIs. As a team the Cardinals are hitting .297, have 117 hits, 60 RBIs and have hit four homeruns. In the circle, Emma Wardlaw is 3-2, has a 1.82 ERA and has made five starts. She leads the team in innings pitched with 34.2 and strikeouts with 26. Karyana Mitchell is 3-0 and has made six appearances. Mitchell has a 2.21 ERA in 19 innings with 15 strikeouts.
