PHILADELPHIA – Four days from now, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team will head down south for its season-opening series at Abilene Christian. On Monday, the Quakers were voted the unanimous favorites to repeat as Ivy League champions in the conference's preseason poll.
Â
The poll was voted on by sports information directors from around the league and a media member that covers each school.
Â
Penn earned all 16 first-place votes for a total of 128 points, followed by Columbia in second (101 pts), Harvard in third (97) and Princeton in fourth (87). Yale (66), Cornell (37), Brown (35) and Dartmouth (25) round out the field.
Â
The Quakers rounded out another strong season in 2023, winning the Ivy League's regular season crown for the second consecutive year and then took care of business in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament to earn the conference's automatic bid to an NCAA Regional for the first time since 1995.
Â
Turning heads down in Auburn, Penn took down the host Tigers in the opener and defeated Samford, 5-4, to advance to the regional final against Southern Mississippi.
Â
Led by reigning Ivy League Coach of the Year
John Yurkow, the Quakers return 2023 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year
Ryan Dromboski and six All-Ivy picks—Dromboski (first team),
Wyatt Henseler (first),
Cole Zaffiro (first),
Davis Baker (second),
Carson Ozmer (HM) and
Jarrett Pokrovsky (HM)—in what they hope will be another successful campaign in 2024.
Â
Penn opens the new year Friday at Abilene Christian, the first of four games in Texas. First pitch on Opening Night is set for 7 p.m., streamed live on ESPN+.
