Women’s Tennis Travels to Georgia Tech (Sat) and Georgia State (Sun) This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team travels down south for a pair of games in Atlanta this weekend, battling #23 Georgie Tech on Saturday and Georgia State on Sunday.

Last Time Out
Penn closed out the ECAC Championship with a 4-2 win over Cornell last Sunday. Saige Roshkoff clinched the match in the fifth slot of the singles round to secure the win for the Quakers. Freshman Esha Velaga opened the singles round with the match-tying win over Cornell's Emma Baker 6-2 6-2. Liza Tkachenko kept the Quakers' momentum going with a win over Gia Graziano to give the Red and Blue a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish as Eileen Wang won a three-set thriller against Jenny Wong. The senior won the first set 6-2 before falling to Wong 7-6 in the second. Wang prevailed, winning the third 6-4 to push Penn's lead to 3-1. Junior Roshkoff secured the Red and Blue's win in her bout with Alexandra Savu, edging the Big Red out 6-2, 6-3, to land the Quakers seventh place at the tournament.

Esha in the Rankings
In the newest ITA women's tennis Division I rankings, freshman Velaga is ranked 74th in the singles rankings based on her 6-1 start to the spring season.

Looking For the First Wins
The Quakers are still looking for their first wins against Georgia Tech and Georgia State in program history. The Yellow Jackets hold a 3-0 record all-time, while the Panthers hold the sole win in the series with the Red and Blue.
