Velaga Falls to Perry in Opening Round of NCAA Singles Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania's Esha Velaga fell to Ohio State's Luciana Perry on Tuesday, Nov. 18 in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships in Orlando, Fla.
 
Velaga got off to a hot start in the beginning of the match, jumping out to 3-0 lead in the first set.
 
After falling behind, Perry responded to make it a 5-4 match but Velaga scored the final point winning the first set, 6-4.
 
The tables turned in the second set as Perry took an early 4-0 lead.
 
Velaga could not find the same success in the second set as she did in the first as Perry took the second set, 6-1.
 
With the match tied 1-1, the game entered the tie breaking third set.
 
The third set was neck-and-neck as it was tied, 2-2.
 
However, Perry found the same consistency she displayed in the second set as she went on a 4-0 run to win the third set, 6-2.
 
Perry will advance to the round of 32 and play the winner of Ni Xi of Charlotte and Mao Mushika of California.
