PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team will send senior
Maya Urata to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the ITA East Sectional Championships this weekend.
Urata will take on University of North Carolina's Theadora Rabman on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m.
She qualified for the match by making the quarterfinals of the ITA Regionals, her best result in four years.
Six players will have a chance to qualify for NCAAs in the singles bracket by either winning the quarterfinals or winning in a playoff match against the the losers of the quarterfinals match.
If Urata were to advance past the quarterfinals, she would join her teammate Esha Velaga, who has already qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships after her ITA Northeast Regional championship.
There will be 32 total players from 17 schools across the East section competing in the women's open singles bracket.
The tournament will be single elimination and will last until Sunday, Nov. 9 where the champion of singles will get an automatic bid for NCAAs.
