CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team won its final match of the ECAC Championship on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge, topping Cornell 4-2.
Penn placed seventh at the championship off a singles win from Saige Roshkoff, who clinched the match in the fifth slot.
Freshman Esha Velaga opened the singles round with the match-tying win over Cornell's Emma Baker 6-2 6-2. Liza Tkachenko kept the Quakers' momentum going with a win over Gia Graziano to give the Red and Blue a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
Senior Eileen Wang won a three-set thriller against Jenny Wong, winning the first set 6-2 before falling to Wong 7-6 in the second. Wang prevailed, winning the third 6-4 to push Penn's lead to 3-1.
Junior Roshkoff secured the Red and Blue's win in her bout with Alexandra Savu, edging the Big Red out 6-2, 6-3, to land the Quakers seventh place at the tournament.
Freshmen Tkachenko and Sasha Motlagh won the Quakers' only doubles matchup of the day, edging out Baker and Graziano 6-4.
