PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team closed out its seven-game homestand on Thursday afternoon, edging out Delaware 4-3 to move to 7-0 in dual matches.
Freshman Liza Tkachenko clinched the match win for Penn, taking her contest 6-4, 6-3 in the #5 singles slot against Delaware's Juleta Honrubia.
In the doubles portion of the match, Esha Velaga and Tkachenko battled Maryia Hrynashka and Slade Coetzee to a 6-3 contest to take the Quakers' sole doubles victory.
The Quakers found their footing in the singles round, with Iris Gallo getting Penn's first point of the match from a 6-2, 6-2 win over Maryia Hrynashka. Senior Eileen Wang won her bout with Alina Vasilenko 6-2, 6-2 in the #3 slot to get another point for the Red and Blue to keep the dual alive.
A win from Velaga in the first slot helped tie up the match to allow first-year Tkachenko to secure the Quakers' seventh straight dual match victory.
