PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team has officially announced its non-conference slate for the 2023-24 campaign, including another trip to the west coast for three games in California.
Â
"To compete in the Ivy League, one of the most talented and well-coached conferences in the entire country, you must push and challenge yourself against non-conference opponents," Head coach
Mike McLaughlin said. "With road trips to play three games in five days in California along with a trip to Marquette on back-to-back weekends, combined with the rigor and grit that comes along with playing all the Philadelphia Big Five schools, our non-conference schedule does just that."
Â
The Quakers have 13 non-conference games lined up for the season, with five taking place at The Palestra.
Â
The season tips off on their home court for the first two games, starting off with Marist on November 11 followed by the first Big Five matchup on November 14 against Saint Joseph's.
Â
The Red and Blue hit the road for a four-game stretch on November 19 with a tilt in New York against Siena. The rest of the three-game road stand will take place on the west coast over the Thanksgiving week, taking on Chapman (November 22), UC San Diego (November 25), and San Diego State (November 26).
Â
"One of my goals as a coach is to make sure that during their four years at Penn our players can travel and compete all over the country and the world. We couldn't be more excited to be headed back to the west coast again to play three games against three extremely well-coached programs in one of the most beautiful areas in California. I am grateful to our Penn Basketball community whose support year after year allow us to provide first-class experiences such as this for our team."
Â
They'll return to The Palestra after the Cali trip on November 29 for another Big Five clash with La Salle before hopping another flight the following weekend for Wisconsin to take on Marquette out of the Big East.
Â
"To compete against Marquette on the road for the very first time in program history will be an incredibly special experience for our team. They are a well-coached team coming off a tremendous 2022-23 season in which they earned an NCAA tournament at-large bid. I am looking forward to the opportunity and challenge to compete against such a high-caliber program like Marquette."
Â
The return from Milwaukee has the Quakers closing out the rest of Big Five play at Villanova (December 5) and Temple (December 10). Splitting the two contests is a trip to Massachusetts for a clash with Merrimack, the last distant trip for the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Â
The final two games of 2023 wrap up in The Palestra, taking on Maine on December 30 and Gwynedd Mercy on New Year's Eve.
Â
"We can't wait to see our fans and the Penn Community back in The Palestra on November 11 as we take on Marist in our season and home opener!"
