T&F Secures Five More Titles In Final Day Of Ivy Heps

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams had a great final day of the Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships on Sunday at Franklin Field, earning five more titles while setting two program records.

The women's team finished third overall with 118 points, while the men finished fourth with 79 points.

Four of the victories on Sunday came on the women's side, and the other came in the men's steeplechase. Michael Keehan collected that one for the Quakers early in the day, clocking a time of 8:45.65 in the event to take home the title.

On the women's side, the Quakers secured victories in two relays and two individual events, all on the track.

In the 100m hurdles, Katherine Muccio came in as the top seed and showed it with a time of 13.51 to take the win. Her time jumped her into second in program history. Also on the track, Moforehan Abinusawa earned a top finish in the 100m with a time of 11.47. She now owns the titles for indoor and outdoor 100m for the Ivy League, officially being the fastest female athlete in the conference. She then went on to take third in the 200m with a time of 23.54, tying the program record set last year by Skyla Wilson.

At the relay events, the women opened Sunday with a program record and victory in the 4x100m. Abinusawa, Bella Whittaker, Muccio, and Christiana Nwachuku teamed up to post a time of 45.19.

In the last event of the day, the women capped it off with a victory in the 4x400m as well. Whittaker, Jocelyn Niemiec, Aliya Garozzo, and Nwachuku pieced together a winning time of 3:37.26, the second-best mark in program history.

For the day, the Quakers totaled 13 new marks for the program top-10 record book.

Penn will now take the week to prepare for the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships held at George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia. The three-day event begins on Friday, May 12.
