Softball Heads to Drexel for Single Game on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is set for a midweek game at Drexel on Wednesday. The Quakers and the Dragons will meet for a 4 p.m. first pitch.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers earned their second Ivy win with a 7-0 victory in Game 2 at Columbia on Friday. While the offense was scoring seven runs, Bella Fiorentino pitched 6.2 innings of relief allowing no runs on three hits, three strikeouts and no walks for her first win of the season. She was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
 
Kelly Zybura held the Lions scoreless through the first seven innings in Game 1, allowing just four hits while striking out three in 7.1 innings pitched. However, Columbia struck for a run in the eighth frame for a 1-0, extra-inning victory.
 
In Game 3, Dana Anderson reached base all four times as she went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk but Penn dropped the series finale, 5-4. The Quakers opened the week with a 7-0 loss to Saint Joseph's.
 
In the circle, Kelly Zybura leads the pitching staff with a 4.95 ERA as she has pitched a team-leading 110.1 innings. She has recorded a team-best 38 strikeouts.  

Sarah Schneider leads the team in multiple categories including hits (35), average (.330), slugging percentage (.547), on base percentage (.390), RBI (16), home runs (4), doubles (11), and total bases (58). She is in a tie for second in the Ivy League with 11 doubles. Schneider stole a base during the Columbia series and moved into a three-way tie with Brianna Brown and Elysse Gorman (2011-14) with 24 career stolen bases. Her next home run will move her into a tie with Brooke Coloma (2010-13) and Alisha Prystowsky (2008-11) for fifth most with 18.
 
Previewing the Dragons
Drexel is 9-27 overall and 4-10 in CAA play. The Dragons are coming off a 1-3 week as they opened the week with a 10-3 loss at Villanova and then won the middle game of conference series against Delaware.
 
Lana Mooney leads the Dragons with a .302 average. Ameryn Humble and Mooney are tied for the team lead with 32 hits. Humble leads the offense with eight doubles, 43 total bases.
 
In the circle, Jessica Schable and Lindsay Nelson have combined for 227.2 of the team's 236.1 innings pitched. Schable leads the staff with a 3.63 ERA as is 7-11, Reyes is 2-15 with a 5.41 ERA.
