HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams wrapped up the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships on Sunday afternoon, bringing home two individual titles on the women's side.
Â
As a team, the women finished in third place with 90.5 points, while the men collected fourth with 48 points.
Â
Both titles were secured on the track for the women in the 60m and 800m. At the 60m, freshman
Moforehan Abinusawa earned her first collegiate title, cruising to a winning time of 7.45. She beat out the second-place finisher from Harvard by .03 seconds.
Â
In the next event,
Bronwyn Patterson shattered several records and moved up to second in program history in the 800m with a winning time of 2:04.54. The time set the new meet record set in 2007 by Cornell's Morgan Uceny and the facility record from all the way back in 1984 by Sherbrooke's Christina Slythe.
Â
Patterson was joined by 10 other marks on Sunday that landed in the program top-10 record book.
Â
For the women,
Katherine Muccio shifted into seventh in program history in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.51 to collect third place. In the 500m,
Jocelyn Niemiec rolled to a second-place finish with a time of 1:12.53 and
Aliya Garozzo followed her in at third on a time of 1:13.95, as the times land them third and 10th in the record book. The 5,000m saw great performances by both
Maeve Stiles (16:24.94), who already owns the program record, and freshman
Lily Murphy with a time of 16:36.84. Murphy's time bumped her into the top 10 for seventh, while the two finished fourth and seventh in the event, respectively.
Â
On the infield, freshman
Ijeoma Eziri earned a podium spot with a fifth-place finish on a jump of 12.11m (39-8.75), a distance good enough for eighth in program history.
Â
At the end of the day, two relays for the women's team were top five finishes in the record book. The 4x800 crew of
Lily Orr,
Olivia Babski,
Chloe Hassman, and Patterson cruised to third place with a time of 8:51.21, the fifth best time in program history. The last event of the meet was the 4x400m relay, seeing Niemiec,
Isabella Whittaker,
Christiana Nwachuku, and Garozzo take second place with a time of 3:42.93, the fourth best mark in the record book.
Â
On the men's side, the record book was hit in three different events.
Â
At the 500m, freshman
Alec Jackson earned a third-place finish on a time of 1:03.52, good enough for seventh in program history.
Â
On the infield to kick off the day,
Scott Dochat put together a seventh-place effort in the weight throw on a first throw of 18.75m (61-6.25), a toss that moves him into fifth in the record book.
Â
Wrapping up the top-10 record marks was at the heptathlon where
Andrew Colbert put together a two-day total of 5,272 points for second place, enough points to move him to fifth in program history.
