STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field programs traveled up to the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island Friday for the Seahawk Invitational, with the program record book hit eight times including a new record set in the pole vault by freshman
Evangeline Thomson.

The women had four program top-10 movements as well as a facility record, while the men had the other four.

On the women's side, Thomson highlighted the Quakers in her first collegiate competition, taking first place and setting the program record in the pole vault with a height of 4.00m (13' 1.5").

In the 60m, Penn took the top four spots including a first-place finish by
Moforehan Abinusawa, tying her program record with a time of 7.34. She was closely followed in by
Isabella Whittaker with a time of 7.50 to move up to third in program history.

Whittaker continued her impressive afternoon in the 300m, taking first place and setting the college facility record with a time of 37.66.

Freshman
Stella Inman capped off the program moves for the women, taking first in the shot put and moving into ninth in the record book with a throw of 13.48m (44' 2.75").

On the men's side, the 60m hurdles kicked it all off with a top finish by
Shane Gardner (7.98) and second place by
Jake Rose with a time of 8.10, moving him up to sixth in program history. Gardner already owns the program record.

In the distance events,
Denis Gallagher scored a win in the 1,000m with a time of 2:24.47 to shift into sixth in the record book.

The final record-book performances took place on the infield at the pole vault.
Scott Toney and
James Rhoads took the top two spots, both clearing 5.40m (17' 8.5") to move into second in program history.

For the day, the Quakers totaled 13 victories.

They'll train the rest of 2023, take the holiday break, and return to action in 2024 on January 16 back at the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Penn 10-Team Select.
